Two years after “death”, Windows 7 suddenly continued its life. Microsoft supports until 2026: spending money to upgrade

As one of Microsoft’s most popular systems, Win7 was “dead” as early as early 2020 – both mainstream and extended support ended, except for enterprise-level paid upgrades through ESU, which originally lasted until 2023, but now Win7 The system has been given an opportunity to extend its life and will be available until 2026.

July 12 is Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday. In addition to Win11 and Win10, Win7 also has two patch updates, KB5015861 / KB5015862. The former is a monthly update and the latter is a security patch update.

However, in these patches, some netizens found that Microsoft has extended the ESU key and added the 4th, 5th, and 6th years. In this way, the ESU update plan has a maximum time of 6 years, which can be used until 2026. Three years have been added to the previously scheduled 2023.

This is a good thing for enterprise users. The system originally running Win7 can be used for a few more years, so there is no need to worry about upgrading.

Of course, this plan is meaningless for individual users. The ESU update plan is paid for, and the annual price can reach 200 euros. This money is enough to buy a new system. Only enterprise users will pay for Microsoft’s patch updates.
