NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090D is a China exclusive model

Board partners in China are not announcing any RTX 5090 cards today. All their coverage focuses on the RTX 5090D, a special model designed to circumvent U.S. export restrictions on high-performance GPUs. Without such a variant, the Chinese market would not receive the GB202 GPU at all.

Interestingly, the RTX 5090D is identical to the RTX 5090 in terms of core specifications. Both cards feature 21,760 CUDA cores and 32GB of GDDR7 memory. However, NVIDIA has limited the Tensor Core performance. While the silicon is identical, the AI TOPS have been reduced from 3,352 to 2,375. This means the RTX 5090D offers 70% of the AI performance of the standard model.

NVIDIA has not limited the clock speeds, which remain identical across both models. The only aspect not specifically mentioned is whether the TDP has been affected. In previous releases, such as the RTX 4090D, TDP was adjusted, but NVIDIA has had significantly more time to prepare for this launch.
